Mycena pterygena  -  Archie McAdam

My best experiences of fungi in 2006 were the finding of several fungi of genera [Melanotus, Pseudoclitocybe and Panellus] that I have never identified before although I know I have seen one or two of them. At the very end of the year Helen and I found Mycena pterygena among the dead, rotting ferns of a rather neglected garden. They were a beautiful pink just off white and the gill edges were an orange. It was so striking that it was dead easy to name from the books. As I said in Alan’s MYFG Annual Report, it is a beauty and now a friend for life.
