Entoloma bloxamii and Clathrus ruber  -  Alan Braddock

Perhaps the most surprising was the Entoloma bloxamii found by Enid during the YNU Foray in Studley Royal Park. We had strolled into the park along a very public path with some large Spruce trees above a rather steep grassy slope. At the time I was barely out of the wheelchair so I wasn’t very good at coping with steep slopes. Anyhow Enid found this perfectly beautiful purple fungus in immaculate condition. We had never seen this species before but had no difficulty in identifying it at E. bloxamii – a Red Data List specimen.
I dried the specimen and it is still sitting around in the Braddock herbarium.

The other remarkable item was – were – the numerous Clathrus ruber specimens found on the island of Sardinia during the BMS International Foray. Several appeared in the hotel shrubbery and virtually every site we visited had at least a couple to display in various stages of development. Anne Bowers reported seeing the same species on one of her favourite Greek islands and a conversation with Chris Yeates, the Yorkshire Recorder, revealed that they also appeared on the island of Crete.
